The special team of Indian experts, who were sent to the Maldives to investigate the devastating fire that destroyed part of a government building earlier this month, has now returned to India. The fire, which broke out on December 12, engulfed a building housing sections of the Housing Ministry, Environment Ministry, Construction Ministry, and the Male' City Council.
According to a police media official, the Indian expert team departed the Maldives on December 22. The official also confirmed that the findings from the investigation will be shared with the public once they are compiled and ready for release.
The arrival of the expert team was announced on December 20 by Police Commissioner Ali Shujau, who confirmed that the team had come to assist in determining the cause of the fire. However, as of now, the exact cause remains undetermined. Authorities have also noted that the cleanup efforts for the Housing Ministry began even before the investigation team commenced their work.
The fire resulted in severe damage to the buildings of the Housing, Construction, and Environment Ministries, as well as the Male' City Council. Critical documents and servers housed in the building could not be saved, causing significant disruption to the operations of these ministries. As a result, the affected ministries have temporarily relocated their operations to Dharubaaruge, while the investigation continues.
