Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef Returns from Official Visit to China

Vice President His Excellency Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has returned to Malé following his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, where he participated in the Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation (BEDC) held in Kunming, Yunnan Province.

During the visit, the Vice President delivered opening remarks at the forum and the Group Meeting between leaders, underscoring the importance of a just climate transition to mitigate global warming and safeguard marine biodiversity. His statements highlighted the Maldives' commitment to sustainable development and the protection of ocean ecosystems.

Additionally, Vice President Latheef held meetings with key Chinese Government officials to discuss enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation on issues related to the blue economy and sustainable development.

The Vice President’s visit was made at the invitation of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), reaffirming the Maldives' active participation in regional discussions on blue economy development.
