Justice (Retired) Uz. Abbas Shareef appointed as Prosecutor General

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed Justice (Retired) Uz. Abbas Shareef as the new Prosecutor General of the Maldives. The letter of appointment was presented to Abbas during a ceremony held at the President's Office on Wednesday morning.

Uz. Abbas Shareef's appointment was made in accordance with Article 221 of the Constitution and Article 3 of the Prosecutor General’s Act. Prior to this role, Abbas held various significant legal positions, including Secretary to the President on Legal Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as a member of the Governing Board of the Maldives International Financial Service Authority and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). He also has extensive legal experience as a former High Court judge.

Uz. Abbas Shareef earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Tasmania, Australia. His appointment as Prosecutor General highlights his longstanding dedication to legal service and expertise in the field.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the Maldives, Honorable Uz. Ahmed Muthasim Adnan, marking the formal commencement of Abbas's duties in his new role.
