The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) represented the Maldives at the prestigious '2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event' held in Sanya, Hainan, China, from September 4-5. Supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the event was organised by the Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, TV and Sports of Sanya City and Sanya Tourism Board.
The Maldivian delegation included Mr. Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Chairperson of MMPRC, and Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD). Chairperson Riyaz delivered a compelling address titled “The Maldives Story & Innovative Tourism Marketing for Tropical Cities” during the event's Thematic Sharing session. He highlighted the Maldives' unique appeal as a vacation destination and outlined the innovative marketing strategies MMPRC employs to promote it.
CEO & MD Shiuree participated in a panel discussion titled “Insight Sessions: International Tourism Marketing,” where he discussed crucial topics such as public-private collaboration, upskilling tourism workers, and diversifying the Maldives’ tourism product. “The success of our tourism industry depends on a unified vision between the public and private sector in driving responsible tourism practices and sustainable growth,” Shiuree remarked during the session.
The 2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event provided an excellent platform for exchanging insights, networking with industry professionals, and exploring sustainable development opportunities in tropical coastal regions. The event featured various activities, including concurrent sessions on sustainable tourism, indigenous tourism, and global tourism quality, as well as a business matching session.
MMPRC's participation underscored the Maldives' commitment to innovative tourism marketing and reinforced its position as a leading global tropical destination.
