At a press conference held this afternoon at the President’s Office, Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed announced that preparations are underway to introduce bunkering services for the first time in the Maldives.
The new service, aimed at enhancing the nation's maritime capabilities, is being developed in collaboration with the State Trading Organisation (STO), Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The initiative is set to be implemented within the first year of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
During the conference, Heena Waleed also highlighted President Muizzu’s National Day remarks about reviving positive behavioral values among Maldivians as part of the broader national agenda.
Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, joined the press conference to provide updates on sports development projects. He announced that 264 projects are currently underway nationwide, with MVR 118 million allocated within the past nine months. These projects include the construction of football stadiums, futsal pitches, volleyball courts, and outdoor gyms. Additionally, the Maldives has hosted ten international sporting events this year and will host six more, including ongoing events at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).
The press conference concluded with a Q&A session where both the Chief Spokesperson and Minister Rafiu addressed media inquiries.
