Maldivian to Expand Distribution Network with Amadeus GDS

News
Ahmed Shurau

Maldivian Airlines has announced a strategic partnership with Amadeus Global Distribution System (Amadeus GDS), a move set to significantly enhance the airline's distribution network in India. Effective immediately, Maldivian joins the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) in the Indian market through Amadeus GDS.

This collaboration allows select IATA-accredited BSP travel agents in India to issue e-tickets for Maldivian flights using the Amadeus GDS platform with the Q2-986 ticket plate. Comprehensive access for all BSP-accredited travel agents in India will become available from August 14, 2024.

Ismail Amrah Umar, Acting Chief Commercial Officer of Maldivian, commented on the development: “Our partnership with Amadeus GDS and participation in IATA’s BSP is a key milestone in expanding Maldivian’s distribution capabilities. This initiative will facilitate easier access to our flights and enhance connectivity within our growing network. We are excited about the expanded opportunities this partnership will offer to our partners and customers.”

Currently, Maldivian operates 13 non-stop flights weekly to three destinations in India from Velana International Airport (MLE) in the Maldives. The airline provides four weekly flights to Cochin (COK), five to Thiruvananthapuram (TRV), and two to Bengaluru (BLR), using A320 aircraft. A Dash8-300 aircraft also connects Hanimaadhoo International Airport (HAQ) in northern Maldives to TRV with two weekly flights.

The partnership will simplify ticketing and distribution processes, benefiting travelers between India and the Maldives. Additionally, agents will gain access to Maldivian’s domestic network, which spans 17 airports across the Maldives, offering comprehensive travel options from luxury resorts to budget-friendly vacations.

Maldivian has also established interline agreements with Emirates and Etihad Airways, with further international partnerships expected in the near future.

Travel agents interested in partnering with Maldivian can obtain more information and register via [email protected]. For additional details on GDS and BSP services, visit the Maldivian website.
