Government signs agreement to conduct Addu Bridge survey

An MoU for the preliminary design and survey work of the bridge project connecting Hithadhoo to Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo in Addu City was signed today.

The government has entrusted Egypt's 'The Arab Contractors' Company to carry out the survey of addu bridge. Furthermore the company has decided to provide free survey work on Addu Bridge.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction. Abdullah Muthalib. Engineer Heba Ahmed Laila signed on behalf of The Arab Contractors.

The company is tasked with the designing of the bridge, make an environmental impact statement or an analysis and geo-technical investigation report.

The government has also agreed to share information about previous geo-technical surveys conducted by the government so far with the company.

Muttalib also said the bridge between Hulhumeedhoo and Hithadhoo is about 14 km long. The work related to the feasibility study and design will be completed in three months after which the funds will be settled and a contractor will also be appointed.

The President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasised that this is one of the significant projects pledged by the Administration and noted that the expenses for the design and feasibility of the bridge will be funded by grants. He revealed that the project will be initiated within this year, and completed within four years. He additionally relayed his hope for the project to contribute towards enhancing Addu City’s economic prospects.
