Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has shared his reaction to the 2026 Ballon d’Or results, making his admiration for Kylian Mbappé clear while questioning Jude Bellingham's position in the final rankings.
England international Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, finishing ahead of Mbappé, who claimed second place after an outstanding individual season.
Speaking about the result, Mourinho praised Kane but admitted that he was disappointed that his Real Madrid forward missed out on the prestigious individual award.
“Kylian is Kylian. Kylian is unique. We have the Ballon d’Or every year, and some players have won it multiple times. But the best player in the history of the World Cup is only one. It is something absolutely unique, and Kylian is unique,” Mourinho said.
The Portuguese manager was particularly surprised by Bellingham's position, with the English midfielder finishing 11th in the voting.
“Jude Bellingham being 11th at the Ballon d’Or left me with no words. Really, no comment,” Mourinho added.
Bellingham's 11th-place finish has attracted attention, considering his importance to Real Madrid and his performances at both club and international levels.
Mourinho has previously described the 23-year-old midfielder as an exceptional player with a unique combination of physical, technical, tactical and attacking qualities.
Mbappé had a remarkable individual campaign, scoring 58 goals in 60 appearances and finishing as the leading scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the 2026 World Cup.
He also made history by becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup history. However, his individual achievements were not enough to secure the 2026 Ballon d’Or, which went to Kane.
Mourinho's latest comments underline his belief that individual brilliance should carry significant weight when determining football's most prestigious individual award.
While Kane celebrates his Ballon d’Or triumph, Mbappé and Bellingham will now look to respond on the pitch as Real Madrid continue their pursuit of major honours.
