The State Electric Company (STELCO) has completed the installation of smart power meters in Hulhumalé Phase 2, marking a significant step toward modernising electricity services across the Maldives. The announcement was made by Managing Director Hussain Fahmy through an official statement on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Fahmy, STELCO is now finalising a dedicated mobile application that will accompany the smart meter system. The application is designed to offer users real-time access to detailed electricity consumption data and user-friendly digital tools for improved energy management.
STELCO aims to transition all customers nationwide to the smart meter system by September 2025, as part of its broader digital transformation strategy. The upcoming platform will enable consumers to track electricity usage by the hour, day, and week, allowing greater control over household energy habits.
The new app will also feature integrated bill payment options, including the ability to settle multiple accounts simultaneously, streamlining the customer experience. A key component, Stelco Care, will provide users with direct communication access to STELCO’s customer service team, enhancing responsiveness and support.
Fahmy expressed appreciation for the continued support and strategic direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, underlining the Government’s commitment to advancing smart infrastructure and digital public services.
The initiative represents a milestone in sustainable energy management in the Maldives, reinforcing STELCO’s commitment to technological innovation, consumer empowerment, and operational efficiency.
