In a landmark move to enhance billing accuracy and customer satisfaction, STELCO announced that over 350 employees, including top executives, will participate in a massive meter reading campaign across Malé tomorrow. The initiative comes as part of the company’s preparations for the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan.

In a special briefing held today, STELCO management outlined the new billing strategy for Ramadan. The company revealed that, instead of issuing two separate discounted bills during the holy month—as done in previous years—a single consolidated bill will be issued covering the entire duration of Ramadan.

As part of this billing cycle, a minimum 10% discount will be applied to households and businesses whose average usage (excluding the three hottest months) over the past nine months remains below a certain threshold.

The large-scale reading operation is intended to clear any backlog of 20 to 25 days in the billing cycle. The company stated that the February readings covered usage only up to 27 days, resulting in an unbilled gap that will now be addressed. STELCO expects that the new reading data collected tomorrow will help rectify longstanding customer concerns regarding inconsistencies and delays in billing.

"The bills generated from this special reading will provide 30 days for payment and are part of our broader efforts to restore trust and transparency in the billing process," the statement read.

STELCO also confirmed that final readings will be taken on the last day of Ramadan to ensure the month’s consumption is fully accounted for. Going forward, monthly readings will be taken during the last week of each month, with bills issued the very next day.

This, according to STELCO, will end allegations of meter reading irregularities and boost public confidence in its services.

The company urged full cooperation from customers during tomorrow’s operation, emphasizing the importance of accurate data collection to improve service delivery across the capital.
