Chelsea have reportedly opened negotiations to sign experienced striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion, as the Blues look to add depth to their attacking options ahead of the new season.

According to reports, Chelsea have already made an approach to both Brighton and Welbeck's representatives, with discussions currently ongoing over a potential deal.

The 35-year-old former England international has emerged as a surprise target, with Chelsea viewing him as an experienced backup striker who can provide leadership, versatility and valuable Premier League experience.

Welbeck has enjoyed an impressive career, representing clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal, Watford and Brighton, while also earning more than 40 caps for England.
