Modern Surgical Tech Introduced at Dharumavantha and IGMH

News
Ahmed Shurau

In a major upgrade to the nation’s healthcare system, the government has officially introduced advanced laser technology for specialized surgeries at Dharumavantha Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

According to the Malé City Group of Hospitals, the general surgery teams at both facilities began performing four distinct types of advanced laser procedures on May 17, 2026.

Advanced Procedures Now Available

The newly introduced specialized treatments include:

  1. EVLT (Endovenous Laser Tonsillectomy/Therapy): For varicose veins and vein swelling.
  2. Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty: A minimally invasive laser surgery for piles.
  3. FiLaC (Fistula-tract Laser Closure): For treating anal fistulas.
  4. SiLaC (Sinus Laser Ablation): For treating pilonidal sinuses.
Major Benefits for Patients

Hospital officials highlighted that this modern upgrade will offer immense relief to patients. Because these procedures do not require large surgical incisions, patients will experience significantly less pain, minimal scarring, and faster recovery times. Additionally, the technology shortens hospital stays and lowers the risk of post-operative infections.

The management of the Malé City Group of Hospitals expressed gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his commitment to advancing the country's medical infrastructure. They also commended the dedication of the surgical teams and support staff who worked to successfully launch the new services, reinforcing their long-term goal of bringing Maldivian healthcare to modern heights.
