Diamorphine Trafficking: 43-Year-Old Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

The Criminal Court has sentenced 43-year-old Ahmed Abdul Hadi to 25 years in prison and imposed a fine of MVR 100,000 after finding him guilty of diamorphine (heroin) trafficking.

The verdict, delivered on May 18, 2026, penalizes the resident of Alamaage in N. Miladhoo under Section 105 of the Maldives Drugs Act (Act No. 17/2011).

Timeline of the Case

The conviction is the culmination of a legal process that began four years ago:

  1. March 4, 2022: The case was initially reported and submitted to the Maldives Police Service.
  2. April 11, 2022: Following a swift investigation, the police forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office for formal charges.
  3. May 18, 2026: The court finalized the 25-year statutory prison sentence and hefty financial penalty.

The Maldives Police Service highlighted the ruling as a major success in its ongoing joint operations with relevant state institutions to combat illicit narcotics.
