Red Bull Racing have officially confirmed that GianPiero Lambiase, Head of Racing and long time race engineer to Max Verstappen, will leave the team when his current contract expires, no later than 2028.

In a major move within the Formula 1 paddock, Lambiase is set to join McLaren as Chief Racing Officer. He will report directly to Team Principal Andrea Stella, strengthening the team’s leadership as they aim to build a title contending structure for the future.

Lambiase has been a key figure in Red Bull’s success, playing a central role in multiple championship-winning campaigns alongside Verstappen. Known for his composed communication and sharp strategic thinking on the pit wall, he has been one of the most respected engineers in the sport.

His departure will mark the end of one of Formula 1’s most successful driver engineer partnerships, with Lambiase and Verstappen forming a highly effective duo during Red Bull’s dominant years.

For McLaren, the signing represents a significant coup. Bringing in a figure of Lambiase’s experience and leadership signals strong intent as the team continues its push to return to the very front of the grid.

While the move will not take effect immediately, the confirmation already adds a new dimension to the future competitive landscape, with Red Bull now facing the challenge of preparing for life without one of their most influential figures
