Maldives Launches National Water and Sewerage Policy to Ensure Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation

The National Water and Sewerage Policy has been officially launched to guide the delivery of safe drinking water and adequate sewerage services across the Maldives.
The policy was inaugurated on Wednesday by Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim.
The framework provides a roadmap for the sustainable management of the nation’s water resources and the development of water and sanitation services nationwide. It aims to strengthen long-term planning and coordination in addressing water security and sanitation needs.
Key priorities of the policy include ensuring equitable access to water and sewerage services, conserving natural freshwater resources, and promoting innovation and modern technology in service provision. The policy also emphasises the importance of research, capacity building, human resource development, and public awareness to improve water and sanitation outcomes for all communities.
