President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has held discussions with the L. Gan Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to address the island’s development priorities, as part of his ongoing tour of Hadhdhunmathi.

The meeting, held at the Gan Island Council Secretariat, centred on several crucial areas aimed at strengthening local infrastructure and services. Council members highlighted the need to resolve utility service challenges and called for enhanced facilities and staffing at the Gan Regional Hospital, including the recruitment of a speech therapist and improved ambulance services.

The Council also proposed that the harbour expansion project incorporate the development of a yacht marina and the dredging of a seaward channel to improve maritime access. In addition, they requested shore protection measures to safeguard the island from erosion, while representatives from local schools presented specific needs related to institutional development.

President Dr Muizzu assured participants that the Government would give due consideration to all the concerns raised. He was accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises, who provided updates on ongoing and planned development projects in Gan.
