Four time world champion Max Verstappen made it clear that his bid for a fifth successive Formula One title is very much alive following a near perfect weekend at the 2025 United States Grand Prix. Having arrived in Austin trailing the championship leader by over 100 points, Verstappen’s victory from pole following the sprint race win cut the deficit to just 40 points with five race weekends remaining.

Verstappen said: “For sure, the chance is there. We just need to try and deliver these kind of weekends until the end.” He added that while the task ahead is extremely difficult, his team’s form gives him real belief. “It’s exciting … and I’m just very excited to the end.”

It was a weekend that underlined both his dominance and the turnaround in momentum. The Dutch star swept both sprint and main races, avoided major mistakes, and capitalised on the misfortunes of other title contenders. Meanwhile, his rivals saw their advantage shrink rapidly. The podium finish of Lando Norris put him just 14 points behind his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in the standings, tightening the battle.

With his form peaking and the championship back in contention, Verstappen and his team now face the challenge of maintaining this momentum across circuits that will test tyre wear, car balance, and strategic execution. He knows the margin for error is vanishingly small yet with his confidence bolstered and the physics of the title fight realigned, the five-time title dream is alive once again.
