The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has begun the formal handover of land plots from Gulhifalhu to recipients under the Government’s Binveriya housing scheme.
The ministry stated that the process of clearing and identifying individual plots began on 3 September, with handovers commencing on 14 September. Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib confirmed the milestone in a post on X, noting that plots currently used as temporary construction sites will be issued once contractors complete their work.
Earlier this year, changes were made to the Gulhifalhu land-use plan, with plot calculations finalised on 30 May. Registries began being issued on 12 July, and so far, 1,260 applicants have been registered. Recipients are required to book appointments through the Hiyaavehi Portal to collect their documents.
The Binveriya Scheme is one of the Government’s flagship housing programmes, aimed at providing residential land to Maldivians in need. Officials described the handover process as a significant milestone in expanding housing access and ensuring more families secure property rights.
