Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa proudly announces its attainment of the Green Globe Certification, highlighting its steadfast dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. This achievement underscores the resort's ongoing efforts to harmonize with the natural splendor of the Lhaviyani Atoll while fostering meaningful guest experiences that champion environmental consciousness.

Green Globe, a globally recognized certification program for the travel and tourism industry, rigorously evaluates organizations against 44 criteria and 380 compliance indicators, ensuring adherence to the highest international standards of economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

Eco-Conscious Guest ExperiencesLe Méridien Maldives integrates sustainability into its operations, offering guests unique opportunities to engage with the environment. At the Marine Conservation Hub, visitors can participate in conservation initiatives through the ‘Marine Master’ program, a feature of Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy. Led by the resort’s resident marine biologist, the program includes hands-on modules such as Reef Explorer, Turtle Quest, and Build A Coral Reef, fostering awareness of the Maldives’ delicate ecosystems while empowering guests to contribute to marine conservation.

For young visitors, the Kids Hub delivers interactive environmental education programs, nurturing an appreciation for the natural world among the next generation.

Sustainability InnovationsThe resort stands out with its 430 sqm hydroponic greenhouse, one of the Maldives’ largest. Producing 30 kilograms of pesticide-free vegetables daily using recycled rainwater and advanced farming techniques, the greenhouse supports farm-to-table dining at The Harvest Table. Guests can also join the Family Foraging Program, blending interactive culinary experiences with sustainability education.

Energy and resource conservation initiatives further solidify the resort’s environmental commitment:

  1. Solar installations generating 548 kWp, reducing annual diesel consumption by 20%.
  2. Water-saving measures, such as tap aerators and wastewater recycling for landscaping.
  3. Plastic reduction, with an onsite bottling plant eliminating the need for 225,000 plastic bottles annually.
  4. Eco-composting systems transforming organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer.

Preserving native vegetation, mangrove ecosystems, and coral reefs remains central to the resort’s conservation efforts, ensuring the protection of vital habitats for future generations.

A Message from the General Manager“Our Green Globe Certification is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and the preservation of the Maldives’ natural beauty,” stated Thomas Schult, General Manager of Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa. “By embedding eco-friendly practices into our guest experiences, we aim to inspire meaningful connections with the environment while safeguarding it for future generations.”
