Ahmed Shurau
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of ADh Omadhoo that the Administration is fully committed to addressing their developmental needs and goals. During a visit to the island, the President highlighted several key initiatives planned for 2025 aimed at resolving longstanding issues and fostering progress.
One of the primary concerns addressed by President Muizzu was the island’s harbour, a critical infrastructure issue that has hindered the community's development. While acknowledging that budget constraints had delayed progress over the past year, he assured residents that work on the harbour would begin in 2025, marking a turning point for the island.
The President also spoke about plans to tackle the island’s land erosion problem, which has been exacerbated by coastal conditions. Despite the contracting of projects for harbour and coastal protection, the practical efforts had not yet begun. However, President Muizzu confirmed that both projects would be launched in early 2025 to protect the island’s coastline and resolve ongoing challenges.
In line with the Administration’s focus on essential services, President Muizzu also outlined plans for the development of education, health, and sports infrastructure. This includes the construction of a multipurpose hall for the school, new classrooms, and the expansion and enhancement of resources for the health centre—all scheduled for next year. Additionally, the President announced plans to develop a handball court for women and improve the football pitch, enhancing recreational facilities for the island’s youth.
The President further addressed the island’s waste management concerns, assuring the community that the Administration would provide the necessary resources for the operation of the island’s waste management facility.
Concluding his address, President Muizzu stated that 2025 would be a year of significant achievements for ADh Omadhoo, with a comprehensive approach to development set to transform the island. Following the meeting, the President toured the island’s health centre, engaging with staff to better understand the challenges faced in healthcare delivery, and visited the harbour area to assess its current state.
