The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has bolstered its maritime security capabilities with the acquisition of new equipment from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Maritime Crime Programme.
Funded by the European Union Service for Foreign Policy Instruments, the equipment was officially handed over yesterday at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC).
The handover ceremony saw Mr. Enrico Boninsegna, UNODC Head of Office in the Maldives, present the equipment to Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem, Commandant of the MNDF Coast Guard.
This advanced equipment is expected to significantly enhance the Coast Guard's ability to combat maritime terrorism within the Maldives' maritime zones, highlighting a strong commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders.
