Subsidized Fuel Now Available for 'Fahi Hakatha' Registered Vessels in GDh. Thinadhoo

The government has expanded its national fuel subsidy program to allow fishing vessels registered under the "Fahi Hakatha" portal to purchase diesel at subsidized rates directly from GDh. Thinadhoo. This targeted expansion is part of a broader state intervention designed to shield the local fishing industry from volatile global energy prices. Amid the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, global oil prices have continued to surge, prompting the administration to step up measures to ease the financial burden on local fishermen.
To systematically mitigate these rising operational costs, the government has arranged for all eligible fishing vessels to access low-rate fuel across the country. Effective from April 22, 2026, subsidized fuel distribution channels have been activated at all Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) stations spanning the northern and southern atolls. In addition to the newly launched services in Thinadhoo, similar subsidized fuel distribution arrangements were successfully rolled out in Dh. Meedhoo earlier this month, on June 1.
The continuous expansion of the energy subsidy network follows direct instructions from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who emphasized that the fisheries sector must be sustained and kept fully operational despite shifting global economic pressures. Acting on these directives, state bodies have prioritized providing affordable diesel to fishing fleets to maintain stable fish catch volumes. The strategy aims to secure the livelihoods of fishermen while stabilizing the local seafood supply chain.
The nationwide roll-out originally commenced in March, with subsidized fuel initially made available at designated MIFCO and FSM stations in Hulhumalé, K. Himmafushi, Lh. Felivaru, GA. Kooddoo, and S. Hulhudhoo. Building on the success of the initial phase, the government is currently working to broaden the program's reach. According to authorities, final preparations are underway to introduce the subsidized rates across nine additional islands where FSM fuel skids are already established, ensuring comprehensive regional coverage for the fleet.
