Severe lightning alerts issued across multiple districts in Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather advisory warning of intense lightning activity across several parts of Sri Lanka today.
According to the advisory, severe lightning is expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as the Kurunegala District. The warning remains in effect until 11:30 pm.
Red alerts have been issued for 11 districts, while 14 districts have been placed under amber alerts. The department said thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in some areas after 1:00 pm, with the possibility of temporary strong winds during thunderstorms.
The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimise risks and damage associated with lightning activity.
