The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation has signed an agreement with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to develop a multi-sport complex in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaran.

A special ceremony was held in Nolhivaran for the signing, with Minister Abdulla Rafiu representing the Sports Ministry and MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed signing on behalf of the company.

Following the agreement, Minister Rafiu, MACL MD Shareef, Nolhivaran MP Mohamed Rasheed, and Council Vice-President Mohamed Hussain participated in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the project.

During his recent visit to Nolhivaran, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that the island would see major sports infrastructure development, including an indoor sports complex and the upgrading of its football ground to meet FIFA standards.

The Nolhivaran Sports Complex project forms part of the Government’s nationwide initiative to establish fitness and recreation centres on every inhabited island by the end of next year. To accelerate the effort, state-owned enterprises have been tasked with carrying out the projects, with MACL awarded the responsibility for 63 islands.
