Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €30 million ($40.2m).

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, arriving as the direct replacement for Ederson, who ended his eight-year stay with City to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce for €14m.

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” Donnarumma said. “I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join. To now be able to play for City is a huge honour and a privilege.”

Donnarumma, who lifted the Champions League with PSG last season, will compete with James Trafford for the No.1 spot. Trafford, who rejoined City from Burnley in a £27m deal earlier this summer, has started the club’s opening three Premier League matches.

Ederson departs Manchester with a remarkable legacy, having won 15 major trophies during his time at the club, including six Premier League titles. The Brazilian was also named twice in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year and claimed the Golden Glove three times consecutively between 2020 and 2022.
