In a joint operation based on intelligence received from counter-narcotics units, the Maldives Police Service has seized suspected illegal drugs from a vessel travelling toward Laamu Maamendhoo.

According to a police statement, the operation was carried out on 31st July 2025, during which officers intercepted and searched a boat near Maamendhoo. The search led to the discovery of 115 cellophane packets suspected to contain narcotics, weighing approximately 82 grams in total. The packets were found concealed inside a box aboard the vessel.

The search and seizure were conducted in collaboration between the Counter Narcotics Intelligence department and Maamendhoo Police, reflecting the authorities’ continued efforts to curb the transport and distribution of illegal substances across the atolls.

At the time of reporting, no arrests have been made, but police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and determine the origin and intended destination of the substances.
