HDC Announces 10% Completion of RasMale' Reclamation Project

Ahmed Shurau
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced today that 10 percent of the RasMale' project, designed to address housing challenges in the Malé region, has now been reclaimed.
The RasMale' project, located on Fushidhiggaru Falhu, is set to become the first ecocity of its kind in the Maldives. The overall reclamation will span 1,009 hectares, and, as of now, 101 hectares (10 percent) of this area have been successfully reclaimed.
HDC highlighted that the reclamation includes 29 hectares from Site J, completed by Capital Marine and Investment (CMC), and 72 hectares from Sites D, F, G, and L, carried out by MM Export.
Preparations are now underway for implementing shore protection measures to safeguard the reclaimed land. In response to climate change concerns and the need to prevent erosion, the reclamation is being raised to 2.5 meters above sea level—0.5 meters higher than Hulhumale'.
