President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his pride and gratitude following the Maldives’ historic election to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the 2026-2030 term.

In a statement on social media, President Muizzu described the achievement as a “great honour” for the Maldives, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and empowerment.

The election, held in New York, marks the first successful international candidature of the current administration, reinforcing the Maldives’ global leadership in gender equality initiatives.

President Muizzu further highlighted the Maldives’ progress in strengthening women’s rights both nationally and internationally, adding that the country remains committed to working with partners to enhance the Commission’s efforts.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) plays a crucial role in shaping global policies for gender equality. With its election, the Maldives now has a platform to contribute directly to advancing women's rights, strengthening legislative reforms, and promoting female leadership across various sectors.
