President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that all medicines listed under the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) essential medicine list will be available at State Trading Organisation (STO) pharmacies starting from March 15.
The announcement was made during the President’s ongoing tour of South Nilandhe Atoll while addressing residents of Meedhoo.
Speaking at the gathering, President Muizzu highlighted that the Government has put an end to the long-standing issue of pharmacies generating excessive profits from medicine sales. He explained that the recent shortage of medicines was a direct result of such practices. However, he assured that his administration would not allow any entity to create hardships for citizens when it comes to access to essential medicines.
The Government’s latest move aims to ensure accessibility and affordability of vital medications across the country. This initiative is expected to bring significant relief to the public, addressing concerns over availability and pricing of essential drugs.
The announcement comes as part of the President’s broader healthcare policy, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to strengthening medical services and improving public access to quality healthcare.
