Yumnu Rashid, a 21-year-old woman who tragically fell from a building in Male’ City, underwent a crucial five-hour surgery on Monday as part of her ongoing recovery.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) today on behalf of Yumnu’s family, Moomin Maumoon provided an update, revealing that the surgery, which targeted the spinal cord in the lower neck area, was successfully carried out as planned by the medical team. This surgery was considered the most critical and dangerous procedure Yumnu had to undergo since her accident.
The family noted that the doctors had advised against any further surgeries of this nature in the future. If successful, the family hopes that Yumnu will regain the ability to sit up independently in the near future.
Following the accident, Yumnu sustained serious injuries and was initially treated while on a **ventilator at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’. She was later transferred to Malaysia for further treatment and is now receiving care at The Pantai Hospital.
After Monday's surgery, Yumnu remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital, with her family hopeful for her recovery.
